DETAILED COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is a unique 2-DAY ceramic course FOR CERAMISTS (OR dentists
that do ceramics). Each participant will have the opportunity to learn and
apply a porcelain layering technique developed by Dr McLaren called the
“Skeleton Build up Technique”. Participants will learn the porcelain
techniques for, (1) 2 minimal prep veneers, micro-layer 2 CUZR crowns.
Dr. McLaren will also Demo, and the participants will do his version of the
“THE TISSUE” tooth, which is a complete tooth built up on a tissue. It is a
great exercise in total tooth form and color. Also covered in great detail will
be concepts of layering based on color development by a system called
“The Contrast Zone System” to create lifelike ceramics. THE COURSE
RUNS FROM 9AM TO 7PM both days TO GET IN ALL THE VALUABLE
INFORMATION.

Topics covered:
 Participants will fabricate two minimal prep veneers on 2 centrals
 Participants will fabricate 2 minimal layer crowns on CUZR
 Participants will fabricate a “TISSUE TOOTH”
 Layering techniques to maximize esthetics when minimal veneer
thickness is available
 Individual characterization
 How to layer and achieve the correct color and ideal translucency
 Individual tooth form
 Finishing techniques, definitive shaping, staining, glazing, and final
polishing.
Dr. Ed McLaren is a Prosthodontist and master ceramist, he has written
over 90 articles and published one book on his techniques and research

related topics. He was the founder and first director of the UCLA Center for
Esthetic Dentistry that provides a full-time residency in esthetic dentistry
and also mini-residencies for practicing dentists. He was the founder and
first director of the UCLA Master Dental ceramist program, which provides
full-time and mini-residency programs for lab technicians. He is the founder
and formally the director of similar programs at UAB school of dentistry. He
now runs his own private institute called “ARTORAL AMERICA”.
